About

Umpqua Valley Audubon’s A Year of Birding

Starts October 14th, 2023 – Monthly Bird Fieldtrip

9am @ Ford’s Pond | 382 SW Church Rd. (parking lot in Sutherlin)

No registration required

Join Umpqua Valley Audubon for a monthly morning field trip to Ford’s Pond in Sutherlin to experience the birds and the seasons together. People new to birding are always welcome to join in, as are families with children. Loaner binoculars are available for adults and children. We will have local birders in attendance, but we also encourage a group effort to spot and ID birds.

Walks will be approximately 2 hours long. Participants can leave when they need to. Currently the ADA accessibility paved pathway is halfway around the pond. It will be completed at some point during our year of birding. A porta-potty is available at the Church St. parking lot until the restrooms are completed.

Being outdoors in nature is good for our mental well-being! During the winter, it may be even more beneficial with our shorter, dreary days to go out to see birds to lift our spirits. In the winter, many duck species are choosing their mates so they are showing off their best plumages.  With the absence of leaves on trees, raptors and other perching birds are much more conspicuous. There is always a possibility of seeing something unusual.

Specific details for each month’s date will be posted on our website. For questions or information contact Stacy Burleigh at stacymb13@gmail.com.
